A Proof of Concept
This project started as a test for a new 3D printer: I wanted to practice my design capabilities and print something with moving parts that actually functioned, not just a static object.
The object was a bench vise, designed entirely from reference images of a real vise found online. Every part was modeled from scratch, including the Acme threaded rod that drives the clamping action of the vise — the mechanical heart of the whole piece. To add something new to this design, I scooped out a small storage area on tho top. Then I created an embossed tag to the side to give it a unique identity.
The name is a playful nod to the TV show Miami Vice.
